  • Colonel, Inspector General, Mission Transport Pilot, and former Commander for Michigan Wing (State of Michigan) in the United States Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol — a civilian volunteer organization.
  • Colonel Gary J. Mayo is currently assigned to the Office of the Inspector General, Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters as a National Compliance Inspection Team Chief. In this duty assignment he is responsible for working with CAP-USAF Inspectors and leading the CAP Inspection Team during inspections of CAP Wing Headquarters across the U.S. He is also a National Complaint Resolution Officer responsible for conducting inquiries and investigations into member grievances and violations of CAP regulations and policies; the processing of “whistleblower” complaints; and the prevention, detection, and correction of fraud, waste, and abuse.

  • As the former Michigan Wing Commander (2003 – 2006), Colonel Mayo served as a corporate officer and member of the National Board of the Air Force Auxiliary, and was responsible for developing and coordinating the objectives, policies, operational directives, plans and programs for the Wing. These duties also included performing various missions in support of Homeland Security and national & regional disaster first response efforts.
